A Chinese national working with BUA Cement Company has been kidnapped in Edo State.
The expatriate was kidnapped in Okpella, a community in Etsako East Local Government Area, while on a routine patrol of the company’s quarry site. The kidnappers were said to be heavily armed.
Daily Trust gathered that a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) official, Banko Navel, attached to the expatriate, was killed in the process.
Confirming the report, Edo State NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Mr Efosa Ogbebor, said their personnel, Mr Banko Navel, was shot dead in the course of trying to protect his principal.
Ogbebor said efforts were being made in collaboration with the police to secure the freedom of the abducted Chinese, as well as apprehend those behind the act.
“As I speak with you, our personnel and that of the Nigeria police are combing the bush into which they escaped. Efforts will not be spared at bringing those responsible to book,” he said.
