A 62-year-old, John Shekwogaza, father of the incumbent chairman of Bwari Area Council, FCT has been abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.
A reliable source, who preferred anonymity, said the incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday around 1: am.
He said the gunmen, in their numbers and armed to teeth, stormed Tokulo community, the village of the council chairman.
The source said the gunmen shot severally into the air after invading the community, to scare residents and some members of the vigilante, before invading the victim’s house and whisking him away.
He said the council chairman was not at home when the gunmen struck, saying the family was yet to establish contact with the abductors.
“In fact, the kidnappers wanted to also take the man’s wife, but when they discovered that she was sick and couple with her old age, they spared her and whisked away the old man,” he said.
A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s chieftain in Bwari Area council, who also preferred anonymity, confirmed the abduction of the victim through the telephone.
“Yes, it was about 1:23 am this I received a phone call that kidnappers have invaded Tokulo village in their numbers and abducted the council chairman’s father, even I am yet to get details about the incident,” he told our reporter.
The spokesperson of the FCT police command, ASP Maryam Yusuf, was yet to reply to text message sent to her phone to confirm the latest kidnap incident.
