Gunmen have forcefully abducted a staff of Ahmadu Bello University and released his wife and daughter in a gunfight with police.
Kidnappers invaded the home of the staff on university’s main campus in Zaria and took him, his wife and daughter.
The campus security passed on a distress call to police intelligence response team
Police engaged the kidnappers in a gun fight.
“When it was clear that they would be overpowered, the kidnappers ran into the bush along with the victims,” said Auwalu Umar, director of the university’s public affairs directorate.
“As the police went after them up to Kasuwar Da’a village bordering the university, the kidnappers then released the wife and daughter and went away with the husband. Some empty shells were recovered from the scene.
It is the latest kidnapping coming out of Kaduna, and yet another targeting a school.
Last week, gunmen invaded staff quarters at Nuhu Bamalli polytechnic, Zaria to abduct the head of the school’s computer engineering department, alongside two of his neighbour’s children.
They were released on Monday.
In the same week, nine French language students travelling for an immersion programme at the Nigerian French Language Village in Badagry were abducted in an attack on their charter bus along Kaduna-Abuja highway.
They were released after ransom was paid.
