Gunmen invade police station, kill police officer

Gunmen have attacked a police station in Kogi State killing one Inspector Jibril who was on duty.

The attackers, who arrived in the early hours of yesterday at the Nigeria Police Area Command office at Eika-Ohizenyi in Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, were reported to have bombed the building.

A resident of the area, Malam Momoh Abubakar, said the attackers invaded the station around 12.15am with explosives and other dangerous weapons and attacked the station.

He stated that the first bomb they threw into the station made a heavy sound which woke up many residents, while the second bomb brought down part of the station’s building.

Abubakar added that the attackers had a field day as they operated for more than two hours without any interference from security agents or people of the community.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP William Aya, said the police inspector died in an exchange of gunfire with the attackers, before the Area Commander and a detachment of military in the area reinforced to the scene of the incident, and the attackers fled.
