Yaqub, who was the chairman of the Non Academic Staff Union (NASU) of Secondary Schools in the area, was trailed to his house in Ozuwuya Okene and killed alongside one Mallam Ibrahim Otaru on Wednesday evening.

It was learnt that the deceased labour leader and his friend had just performed ablution and were about to observe their evening prayers when the gunmen numbering five stormed the area and shot them at about 7.30pm.

The gunmen reportedly fled the area leaving the duo in the pool of their blood without taking any valuable away from the deceased’s apartment.

State Chairman of NASU, Sheikh Mamman Mamman, told Daily Trust that the late union leader and his friend were killed at about 7.30pm by suspected assassins.

He wondered what would have warranted the cold murder of its member and urged the concerned authorities to step up security in the state.

The gunmen stormed his house, shot him dead while his daughter and his wife, who  sustained serious injury during the attack were rushed to the hospital.

According to residents of the area, the gunmen were suspected to be hired assassins as they attacked Abdulganiu and his family and left without taking away any item to suggest they were robbers.

Confirming the incidents, Kogi State Police Spokesman, Mr William Aya, said the command was working hard to unravel those behind the incidents and bring them to book.
