A popular supermarket owner in Lokoja, Kogi State, Ugochukwu Okpala, was reported to have been kidnapped at a gun point by yet-to-be-identified hoodlums.

Daily Trust learnt that the woman was kidnapped in the late evening of Friday shortly after closing for the day, right in front of her supermarket called ‘Wisdom supermarket’, at the Gadumo area of Ganaja, a suburb of the capital city of Lokoja.

She was said to be sitting and discussing with friends at the front of the supermarket when the gunmen struck and took her away to an unknown destination.

As of the time of this report, no contact has been made with the family of the woman.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) SP William Aya, confirmed the incident, saying that the police was informed that Okpala was abducted at the closing period of Friday in her shop.

He added the woman was about entering her car for home when “she was accosted, pushed into their own car and drove off to an unknown destination”.

SP Aya noted further that her abductors abandoned her car and drove off in their own car with her.

However, the state police command’s spokesperson said the state commissioner of police, CP Edward Eboka, had mobilised officers in conjunction with all other sister security agencies, including the local vigilante to go after her abductors.

“We got the information about the kidnap and the Commissioner of Police has activated all security architecture to ensure that the lady is freed without hurt while the culprits would be apprehended and brought to justice,” he said.
