Gunmen abduct passengers on Abuja-Lokoja Road

Gunmen on Wednesday attacked an 18-seater bus and abducted all the passengers except one on board at Ochonyi-Omoko village on the Abuja-Lokoja highway.

The passenger who escaped through the bush, Benjamin Isaac, said the incident happened around 8pm when the gunmen emerged from the bush and flagged down the bus.

He said, “They opened fire on the back tyres which forced the driver to lose control and veer into the bush. They ordered all the passengers to come out. As we were being led into the bush I sneaked away.”

Isaac further said he boarded the bus by the roadside in Zuba and that they were travelling to Okpella in Edo State.

A vigilante in the area, who preferred anonymity, confirmed the incident, saying he was performing ablution for evening prayers when he heard gunshots.

He said, “Immediately after the prayers I reached out to my colleagues and we mobilised to the scene and found a bus abandoned by the roadside.”

The spokesman of the police in Kogi State, DSP Williams Ovye Ayah, did not respond to calls and an SMS sent to his phone about the incident.
