Gunmen abduct FCTA staff, 14 others

At least 15 persons have been abducted by gunmen from the 1,000 Housing Estate in Pegi community in Kuje Area Council of the FCT.

The gunmen were said to have attacked the estate on Sunday around 11pm and shot sporadically and in the confusion abducted some persons returning from the city centre.

Taiwo Aderibigbe, the Chairman of Pegi Residents Association, said among the persons abducted was a staff of the FCT’s Department of Development Control under the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), Shuaibu Misa.

He further said, “We also observed that the husband of the woman who sells second hand clothes at the main entrance of the estate was among the people kidnapped.

“The kidnappers have not contacted the families of those abducted, but we are still trying to identify other residents abducted.”

Reacting to the incident, Mukhtar Galadima, Director of Development Control, said, “Yes, it is true, one of our drivers by name Shuaibu Misa was kidnapped and he has not been released.”

But reacting, FCT Police Public Relations Officer,  Josephine Adeh, said the command was not aware of the incident.

She said in a statement late yesterday that “”After an extensive investigation, including intelligence-led information gathering, the olice have found no evidence of such an incident. 

‘‘This is further supported by the fact that no victims or families of victims have come forward with any information or evidence of a kidnapping.”” She  reiterated theb police’s commitment toward ensuring the safety of citizens and urge anyone with any information related to the alleged incident to come forward for necessary action.
