Five family members were on Monday around 9pm abducted by gunmen at Bukpe community of Wako Ward in Kwali Area Council of the FCT.

Those abducted are Ibrahim Dakwoi Bukpe, Monica Ibrahim, John Dakwoi Bukpe, Yabuku Dakwoi Bukpea and Margaret Yakubu.

A member of the victims’ family, Yakubu Theophilus, said the gunmen in their numbers wielding sophisticated weapons invaded the community and abducted the victims from two compounds.

He said, “They also captured me, but when we trekked some distance away from the village, they asked me if I could raise ransom for all the victims. I told them yes and they told me to go back home.”

Another family member of the victims, Justus Male Dakwoi, said, “It was God that saved me, as the gunmen also entered my house but I was away in Awawa village.”

The Village Head of Bukpe, Alhaji Hasan Shamdozhi, said the gunmen operated for nearly an hour.

He said, “I just entered my house not more than 10 minutes when I heard gunshots across the community. Later a report came to me that five people from the same family were abducted.”

He said the attack on the community was the fourth within the last one year, while appealing to government to come to the aid of his people by providing them with security.

It would be recalled that on March 30, 2022, bandits invaded Alhaji Hasan’s palace and abducted him and three others.

The chief was set free after an undisclosed amount was paid to the bandits after spending 28 days in their den.

The spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, DSP Adeh Josephine, did not reply to an SMS on the latest incident.
