Daily Trust learnt that the kidnappers swooped on the students in front of their hostel at the Olowu area of Ayetoro and disappeared into the bush.
A source told our correspondent that the abductors had contacted the victims’ family and demanded N50million for their release.
The police public relations officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust, saying a joint security team had been dispatched to trail the kidnappers and secure the release of the victims.
“It is true. They went there in the night and abducted them. We are on their trail. The joint security team have been mobilised to the location,” Oyeyemi said.
Yewa North Local Government Area has been the epicentre of insecurity in the state following the recent farmers-herders clashes that claimed many lives and destroyed property.
Meanwhile, the Yewa North Patriotic Forum, a youth group in the area, has called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to order the commissioner of police, Edward Ajogun, to relocate to the local government, noting that the area has not been enjoying proper policing.
Part of a statement signed by the president of the group, Sanni Omobolaji reads, “We have not been enjoying good policing in Ayetoro since the former divisional police officer died few months ago and another one has not been deployed to the area; and the officer acting in that capacity has not been corporative with our people.”
