Guber poll: INEC declares APC’s Mala Buni winner in Yobe

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the former National Secretary of All Progressives Congress (APC), Mai Mala Buni, the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in Yobe state.

Announcing the result early Monday morning, INEC’s Returning Officer for the governorship election, Professor Abubakar Musa Gundiri, who is the Vice Chancellor of Federal University Wukari, said Buni of APC emerged winner having scored the highest votes.

Gundiri said Buni had scored a total of 444,013 votes to defeat his rival of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Amb. Umar Iliya Damagum, that polled 95,703 votes.

“I, Professor Abubakar Gundiri, hereby certify that Mala Buni, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared winner of the election,” he announced.

The Returning Officer explained that the exercise has a total of 1,365,913 registered voters, 546,391 accredited voters, of which, 560,492 of them voted.

Of the total votes cast, Gundiri said, a total of 546,391 were valid votes while 14,101 are invalid.

However, the final result sheet was signed by the party agents of PDP, Dr Abdu Bulama and Dr Zaji Bunu of APC.

They both described the election as smooth, peaceful and commended INEC for conducting a hitch-free exercise.

Our correspondent reports that the former APC scribe, Buni, has won all the 17 local government areas of Yobe state.
