Guards shot as ‘security operatives’ raid Imo Oil well

Some security officers guarding an oil well in Izombe, Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, have been shot by gunmen who raided the facility.

Our correspondent gathered that  suspected security officers in armoured cars and Hilux vans stormed the oil-rich community around 4am on Monday.

A resident, K. C. Precious, told our correspondent that the invading security officers raided Well 17 belonging to Seplat Petroleum Company.

The latest incident comes less than two weeks after some residents were killed and several houses razed when soldiers stormed the area after the driver of a truck were said to have been killed by some irate youth.

Precious said there was no inkling of any crisis after a candidate contesting for House of Assembly election under the All Progressives Congress (APC), held a successful rally in the area.

He said, “Suddenly around 3am, they called me that men in military uniform had taken over our community. As I am talking to you, the invasion is still on.”

Spokesperson for the 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze, Captain Joseph Akubo, told our correspondent that he was not aware of any invasion.

He promised to check and call back, but as at the time of writing this report, he had not done so.
