A group, Citizens Network for Peace and Development (CNPD), has called on former President Goodluck Jonathan to run for presidency in 2023 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The group’s National Coordinator, Okorie Raphael, while addressing newsmen in Abuja at the weekend, said CNPD was ready to mobilise at least eight million Nigerians to return Jonathan to the presidential villa.

Raphael said, “We call on former President Jonathan to once again avail himself to be of service to the country he loves so much. He should bear in mind the popular Latin saying, ‘Vox populi, vox Dei’, meaning, ‘The voice of the people is the voice of God’. This is a rescue mission you cannot refuse to lead sir.”

Raphael also appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to support the candidature of Jonathan should he accept to run for the country’s number one seat.

Buhari defeated Jonathan in 2015 and spent months criticizing his government as corrupt, saying his party, the now opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), left the country in ruins after ruling for 16 years.

The group said, “We call on President Muhammadu Buhari, who has done so much in his few years in office, to throw his support behind the candidature of Goodluck Jonathan.

“We are confident that Jonathan, more than any other candidate, will ensure continuity, stability and fair play across the polity. We say to Mr President, that you have sacrificed so much for this nation. Your Excellency’s greatest legacy yet will be in the fact that you left Nigeria in capable hands.”
