The Mandate Health Empowerment Initiative (MHEI), an NGO, in Abuja has called on the Federal Government to establish mental health assessment centres in the six geo-political zones of the country.

The president of the organisation, Mr Ameh Zion, made this call yesterday when the team visited the Esu Palace in the Bwari Area Council, FCT, to sensitise village chiefs and community members on depression.

Zion said the rate of reported cases of suicide and attempted suicide was on a steady increase in the country stressing the need for the Federal Government to take action at ameliorating the situation.

He said the centres would provide easy access to first hand medical and professional help and assistance in order to get the help they needed to manage problems faced in day to day living.
