A group of legal practitioners in Bauchi State under the aegis of Bauchi Lawyers of Conscience (BOBALAC) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to confirm Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
The group in a statement jointly signed by Shipu Rabo Esq and Musa Abdullahi Esq called on the National Judicial Council (NJC) and the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC) to make all necessary legal moves for the confirmation of the acting CJN.
“Following the judgement last week by the Code of Conduct Tribunal removing the suspended CJN, His Lordship W.S.N Onnoghen as Chief Justice of Nigeria among other far reaching decisions of the Tribunal, we call on His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, the National Judicial Council, the Federal Judicial Service Commission among other relevant authorities to go beyond merely extending the appointment of Hon. Dr. Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, CFR as Acting CJN,” the group stated.
“From his stint as Ag. CJN so far, coupled with his abundant integrity and rich judicial cum intellectual background, it is our point humbly, that the most proper thing to do is to initiate the process of appointing him in substantive capacity so that the much needed stability in the system would be attained among other attendant advantages of taking that step,” the group noted.
