Group trains 243 women on Skill acquisition

The Humanitarian Network for Northern Nigeria (HNNN), through its Skill-up Young Women (SKY) project has completed the training of 243 apprentices in various skills in Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The beneficiaries were engaged for two weeks in different categories of small businesses of interest which include cosmetology, catering and small wall decoration.

Speaking during the graduation ceremony, the HNNN Coordinator, Bukar Mohammed Atiyaye, disclosed that the exercise was part of the organisation’s objectives of empowering women.

He noted that the training was aimed at equipping young women  comprising widows, displaced and young graduates, with several entrepreneurship skills on viable businesses for self-reliance.

He said that the project, which started last year, has so far reached 20 percent of its target.

He said the project would also complement the organisation’s drive of empowering 10,000 vulnerable young women across the conflict affected regions of the three north eastern states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe.

“Our participants were trained on vaseline, liquid soap, air freshener, and soap making. Others were trained on local production of ice cream, peanuts, yoghourt, snacks, tailoring and bag making”

He thanked various business owners for their cooperation to offer the training free of charge.
