Group to Okpebholo: Don’t ignore Muslims in your cabinet like previous governors did

A group under the aegis of Edo Muslim for Equity and Good Governance (EMEGG) has appealed to Governor-elect of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to consider appointing a Muslim as either Secretary to the State Government (SSG) or Chief of Staff.

Speaking with journalists, Sirajudeen Muhammad, General Coordinator of the group, said Edo Muslims actively participated and supported Okpebholo in the recent election.

“EMEGG has been agitating for fair representation in Edo state government. But none of the past government has really paid attention to our demand of appointing Muslims in their cabinets.

“During campaign, the Governor-Elect in an interaction with Edo Muslims pledged to operate inclusive government, it is time to also appoint Muslims in key position in the state. Now, it is time to reward efforts, consider campaign promises and share equitably for those who fought for gains.

“The position of the Governor and Deputy Governor have already been settled for Christian faithful. The Muslims in Edo state are therefore calling in the spirit of equity and inclusivity that Muslims should be considered for Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief of Staff, Commissioners among others.”

He, however, noted that Edo Muslims have qualified, experienced, dedicated, committed and loyal APC faithful that can occupy these positions and make quality contributions.

“Considering them will change the narrative of governance in Edo state, build confidence in Senator Monday Okpebholo and APC as a party,” he said.
