Group Seals Yobe Assembly gate, protests financial autonomy

The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) Yobe State house of assembly chapter has sealed off the entrance of the state assembly complex over financial autonomy.

The PASAN state chairman, Comrade Zanna Ali, who led the protest, said they would not allow the house of assembly members to attend Tuesday’s sitting until their demand is addressed.

He said the protest was in compliance with the directives from the national body.

According to him, the action is as a result of non implementation of the financial autonomy for the state legislature and judiciary which guarantees the independent of the two arms of government.

He said, “It is now almost two years that the president has assented the bill but we are yet to see anything.”

In a statement, the national president of the association, Comr Usman Ahmed, said the union has exhausted all attempts asking for implementation, hence “No chapter or leadership are allow to engage in any negotiation as all negotiations must be done centrally.”
