Group raises concern over low budgetary allocation to health sector in Jigawa

Jigawa Health Partners, a coalition of civil society organisations, has raised an alarm over the dwindling budget allocation to the health sector in the state.

The group’s analysis revealed that the health sector allocation has fluctuated between 10% and 15.7% over the past eight years, failing to meet the Abuja declaration target of 15%.

The group leader, Isah Mustapha, said the critical projects, including psychiatric hospitals and ophthalmic units, have received zero releases, while family planning programmes and operational research initiatives have suffered.

“We urge the state government to prioritise health and honour its commitment to allocate at least 15% of the budget to health,” said Isah Mustapha, Executive Director of ELIP-Initiative.

The group also recommends transferring JISACA’s mandate to the Ministry of Health to ensure prompt project payments, and strict adherence to procurement plans.
