A non-governmental organisation (NGO), AfriGrowth Foundation, has decried the lack of youth-centred development initiatives in the country.
The president of the foundation, Mrs Dayo Keshi, who spoke in Abuja, said it was important for the government and its development partners to initiate and implement programmes that focus on youth development.
“In Nigeria, we have to realize we cannot do it alone and it is like a relay where the older generation passes the baton to the younger and as such the youths have to be supported and given the enablement to be dynamic which in turn will reflect in the society,” she said.
She noted that society owes the youth the duty to develop them on a sustainable basis since they belonged to social demography that was a key determinant for addressing social conflicts and achieving peace.
Keshi said the foundation was currently working on a training and research centre where many youths would be trained on impactful programmes.
