Vintor Global Enterprises has empowered 536 farmers in Nasarawa, Taraba, Benue, and FCT through its Farmers’ Friend project.

The project director, Mr. Vincent Iyev, made this known during Farmers’ Day Celebration in Lafia.

He explained that the project is meant to alleviate the plight of farmers through provision of modern farming inputs as well as training of farmers on modern farming techniques, pre-seasonal training workshop for farmers through extension workers, provision of farm inputs such as herbicides, fertilizer, sprayers, rain boots, raincoats and hand gloves.

Other services are provision of tractors to farmers at cheaper rates, training on diagnostic survey for the identification of agricultural problems and potential, among others.

The Nasarawa State Commissioner of Agriculture, Professor Alanana Otaki, who was represented by the Director of Administration in the ministry, Solomon Ombugadu, noted that empowering farmers at this critical time Nigeria is facing food crisis would go a long way to boost food security.

He added that the ministry is pleased with the quality of training facilitated by the group for farmers, stressing that the provision of varieties of farm inputs, tractor hiring services at subsidised rates, and loan facilities for farmers would boost food production in Nasarawa and the states where the project is implemented.

The commissioner said the Governor Abdullahi Sule administration has made agriculture a priority and will partner with critical stakeholders in the sector to make it succeed.

Also speaking, the Chairman, All Farmers Association of Nigeria, AFAN, Nasarawa State,   Danjuma Adamu, said the project is the first of its kind in the state, coming at the time farmers need it most. He stated that as an agrarian state, Nasarawa farmers would be more organised this season to benefit from the project.
