A non-governmental organisation, Dangin Juna Africa Initiative (DJAI), has empowered 100 less privileged women with N5000 each, to cushion the prevailing economic hardship.
The money was given to the women during a ceremony to mark the DJAI 6th anniversary held at Deba town of Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area of the state, where poor women were carefully selected to benefit from the cash gift.
Chairman of the association, Bashir Sani Dogo, said the gesture will henceforth become part of the DJAI routine activities in which less privileged and vulnerable people would be empowered annually during their anniversary.
He said as non-governmental and non-profit organisation, the monetary gift was realised through personal contributions by members for the pilot empowerment programme, hoping that it would become an annual event.
Chairman of Yamaltu/Deba LGA, Shu’aibu Umar Galadima, commended the group for the humanitarian effort, saying it was a wake-up call for him towards providing assistance to the needy.
He promised to personally donated for the initiative to be part of next year’s empowerment programme in order to boost the group’s assistance to the vulnerable members of the society.
In an address, the Emir of Deba, Alhaji Ahmed Usman, appreciated the group for the kind gesture, saying it is a good initiative for people to embrace one another and help the needy thereby reducing poverty and redundancy.
A beneficiary, Zainab Galadima, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, appreciated the gesture by DJAI in assisting them with the cash gift, as it will help them in their businesses as petty traders.
