A group has alleged smuggling of commodities along the Nigeria-Cameroon border in Adamawa State, calling on the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to wake up to its responsibility.
The President of Adamawa Forum for Good Governance and Transparency in Trade, Maigari Ochapa Yusuf, said in a press statement that large quantities of rice were being brought in by importers using large boats.
He sought intervention of the Nigeria Customs Service to halt illegal importation of foreign rice through the river ports in Wuro Bokki, Ribadu and Njoboli, insisting that allowing such illicit overnight shipment into the country could jeopardize genuine businesses and affect revenue generation.
He expressed readiness of members of his group to provide useful information on such activities to assist security agencies in their quest to maintain law and order along the border.
