Gridlock hits Abuja-Kaduna express after daring save to avert crash

Driver cuts in front of tanker with failed brakes to avert major crash

A gridlock has hit the Abuja-Kaduna expressway in Madalla after a tanker cut in front of another that had lost its brakes, preventing it from crashing into parked vehicles.

The tanker, said to be empty, with failed brakes was driving behind some vehicles in morning rush hour headed toward Zuba flyover.

A second loaded tanker cut in front of it.

Both trucks are stuck together.

The Zuba flyover is a busy spot where passengers alight and board vehicles.

Witnesses say the intervening truck prevented a possible accident that would have cost lives and property.

Zuba is a strategic point on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway. It has seen a number of truck accidents recently.

The incident is said to have occurred at 7am.

A Daily Trust correspondent at the scene says motorists are signalling drivers heading toward Zuba.

He has managed to get to Zuma Rock in Madalla an hour later.

Correspondents say officials of Federal Road Safety Commission FRSC officials are working to keep motorists in check.
