There was gridlock on Tuesday in Benin, Edo State capital, as residents protested the deplorable state of the Benin-Warri road.
The protesters, led by the President of One Love Foundation, Patrick Eholor, barricaded the failed section of the road by Benin Bypass in Ogheghe community.

Motorists took advantage of the blockade to hike transport fares by 100 per cent. Mr Eholor said the road had become a death trap for commuters and hideout for armed robbers and therefore urged the state and federal governments to find a lasting solution to it.
A motorist who spoke to journalists, Austin Taiwo, lamented that a journey of 40 minutes could take two hours. Another resident who simply identified himself as Osadolor said the road had disconnected communities in Edo from Delta State.
