Govt tasked on commitment to open contracting

The government has been urged to provide technical support and engage Chief Executive Officers to ensure compliance with the Open Government Partnership (OGP).

Officials of Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC) and Media Rights Agenda (MRA) made this known during a multi-stakeholder training workshop on open contracting in Nigeria held in Abuja.

The Chief Operating Officer of Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC), Gift Maxwell said Nigeria joined the Open Government Partnership in 2016 and has adopted its first National Action Plan which spanned January 2017 to June 2019.

She said Nigeria made a commitment to the full implementation of open contracting as its second commitment under the fiscal transparency thematic area adding that it led to the development and deployment of Nigeria’s Open Contracting Portal (NOCOCPO) by the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).

She said having engaged stakeholders to discuss the strategies and entry points to improve Nigeria’s open contracting agenda, there was need for government to provide needed support to the MDAs.
