Govt sues former attorney-general over alleged N7.7m fraud

The Jigawa State Government has sued a former Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice of the state, Mr. Sani Hussaini Garun Gabas before a State High Court over an alleged N 7.7 million he collected from the state government to prosecute an appeal at the Supreme Court.

In the case filed at the State High Court sitting in Dutse, Gabas, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, (SAN), who was the state’s law officer between 2015 and 2019 was alleged to have collected the said amount in 2018 to prosecute an appeal at the Supreme Court in the case of the State vs Ilyasu Danlawan &1 other.

In the suit, the claimant is seeking a declaration that the state government is entitled to the refund of N7.7 million being funds released to prosecute appeal at the Supreme Court in the aforementioned matter which the defendant allegedly failed to do.

According to the writ summons, the defendant has 30 days after the service to appear in person or through legal representation.

No date has been fixed for hearing of the matter.
