The Katsina State Government has spent over N800 million in its effort to revamp irrigation scheme in the state.
The state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu, disclosed this yesterday while launching the deployment of 225 Mahindra tractors to farmers, saying the amount was spent on the rehabilitation of seven dams and establishment of 34 weather stations in each of the 34 local government areas.
“The ongoing farmers’ data and information system will assist the agriculture productivity in the state,” he said, adding that the Governor Aminu Bello Masari administration would procure about 361 tractors in the long run, in its partnership with Springfield Agro Ltd as the vendors, Mahindra of India.
The deputy governor who is also the Commissioner of Agriculture, said the state had already deployed 225 Mahindra 60hp 2-wheel drive tractors for easy farming.
