About N35 million worth of vaccines for immunisation against meningitis and other killer diseases are to be procured by the Katsina State Government to curtail the outbreak of the disease across the state.
The state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Abdulkadir Zakka, told Daily Trust that government was working hard to tame the outbreak and hopefully by next week “we shall commence the massive vaccination exercise.”
He said already the 34 local government areas had been jointly mobilised and the state government was supporting with additional grants for a massive vaccination across the councils.
He said a survey of most affected areas was being carried out with involvement of health personnel to sensitise people on what needed to be done.
Since the outbreak of the decease, many deaths have been recorded mostly in rural communities of Jibia, Batagarawa and Dutsinma local government areas.
