Forty mission schools returned to their original owners by the Delta State government have received a N400 million grant from the state government.

Daily Trust Saturday reports that the grant was approved by the State Executive Council on June 28, 2022.

The secretary to the state government, Chief Patrick Ukah, presented cheques to the owners of the schools in his office in Asaba.

Ukah said the money was for the upgrade and expansion of facilities in the benefiting schools, with each school getting N10m.

He explained that the gesture was part of the state government’s deliberate measures to ensure that the schools did not lag in terms of facilities and human capital development efforts.

The SSG added that after the official handover of the schools to the owners in 2011, the missions had appealed to the state government for the grant to enable them run the schools effectively.

Speaking on behalf of the benefitting schools, the Bishop of Warri Catholic Diocese, Bishop Anthony Ewherido, thanked the state government for the financial assistance to the missions’ schools.

Ewherido, represented by Reverend Father Christopher Ekabo, however, appealed to the state government to further release mission primary schools to them.
