The Sokoto State Government has released an undisclosed amount of money for the purchase of air tickets to facilitate the return of its 72 medical students who are stranded in India and Sudan.

Daily Trust Saturday learnt that the students had since completed their studies but could not return due to the lack of air tickets. 

Fifty-two of the students studied Nursing, Pharmacy, Radiography, and other medical-related courses in India while 20 graduates read Medicine among other science-related courses in Sudan.

A press statement issued by the State Scholarship Board which was signed by its Permanent Secretary, Bello Isa, said the Indian graduates will arrive on June 30, 2022, while those in Sudan would be in Nigeria on June 20.

The statement explained that 28 other students who studied Radiology and Physiotherapy in India had arrived and commenced intensive training at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto.

The statement noted that the graduates were among the 200 sponsored by Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal’s administration from 23 local government areas of the state.
