Govt commences N4bn work on major road

Nasarawa State Government has commenced work on the road along Ugya-Umaisha Development Area to reduce the rate of crime in the area.

The project, worth N4 billion, is located in Toto Local Government Area of the state and its environment, which has been terrorized by kidnappers and bandits due to the road’s condition.

The 48.7-kilometer road which was awarded to Ela Engineering and Constructed Nigeria Ltd in August 2022 is expected to be completed in one year.

Speaking to journalists in a telephone conversation on Saturday, the General Manager of the company, Mr Yusuf Isiaka, said the road would be upgraded from earlier surface dressing to nylon asphalt level.

He explained that the road, when completed, would go a long way in reducing the transportation problem being faced by farmers in the area.

Our correspondent, however, reports that the road was constructed by a former governor of the state, late Aliyu Akwe Doma and since then has been in deplorable condition, paving way for bandits and kidnappers to operate.
