Jigawa State Governor Mohammadu Badaru Abubakar yesterday said his government has cleared 4,000 hectares of virgin land for free allocation to youths interested in farming.
The governor made the disclosure while flagging off the distribution of 300 wheat hand harvesters and threshers in Gabarin village of Ringim local government area, explaining that the threshers and the harvesters would be distributed through youths who in return would render services to farmers on hire basis. Badaru said 30 youths through whom the threshers and the harvesters would be hired were going to be assigned to each cluster farming scheme.
He said the virgin land would be allocated for two years to interested youths, who after the period were expected have generated enough income that would enable them to buy their own farm land so that another set of youths would benefit from the land on same basis.
