Members of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) have promised to increase support for the development of public health emergency centres to tackle disease outbreaks in the country.

In a communiqué by chairman of the forum, Governor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar issued after the forum’s  meeting yesterday in Abuja, the  governors promised to render the support through their state ministries of health.

The forum also called for stronger collaboration with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Federal Ministry of Health to strengthen the capacity of existing emergency centres in the country.

Chief Executive Officer, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, had earlier briefed the forum on the measures taken by government to address the outbreaks of Lassa fever, cerebrospinal meningitis, yellow fever and Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
