Govs meet over food insecurity, oil crisis, LG autonomy, others

Governors of the 36 states of the federation yesterday met at their secretariat in Abuja to discuss critical issues affecting the country including food insecurity and crisis in the petroleum sector.

The meeting was presided over by the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq of  Kwara State.

The meeting which started around 9:30pm was still ongoing at press time.

According to the agenda of the meeting sighted by our correspondent, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mr Mele Kyari, was to brief governors on recent developments in the oil sector.

The governors also discussed the legal issues faced by the NGF including the local government autonomy.

They were also billed to receive briefings from the Director-General of the Department of State Service (DSS), Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi and the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), to be presented by Lami Chinade, on security matters.

The governors also considered “leveraging $825m to improve Nigeria’s agri-food sector.”
