There is a general low turnout of voters in today’s Governorship and House of Assembly elections in Gombe State, compared to the Presidential and National Assembly elections.
Our correspondent, who went round the state, said there was voters’ apathy.
A voter, Ali Hammari, said he spent less time on the queue unlike the last election.
“During the last election, I spent over three hours before I could cast my vote but today, it was easier as the voters turnout was poor compared to the last election,” he said.
Also, the turnout of women in the metropolis was very low compared to the presidential elections when they outnumbered the men in some polling stations.
According to some reports, the low turnout of women could be connected to threats issued by hoodlums from one of the political parties.
After the presidential election, some political thugs have threatened to attack women if they turnout for the polls.
Meanwhile, voters turned out at their respective polling stations as early as 7:30 am.
The electoral officials also arrived on time and voting commenced at 8:am in most of the polling units.
Our Correspondent reports that the voting is going smoothly with heavy presence of security personnel patrolling major roads.
