All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, has refuted the trending news on social media that its Nasarawa State governorship candidate, Labaran Maku had stepped down for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s candidate.
This was contained in a release, signed by the national chairman of APGA, Victor Oye and made available to newsmen in Awka on Thursday.
Oye said the fake news was handiwork of desperate politicians, to mislead people by blackmailing the APGA candidate in the state to gain advantage.
He said there was never a time when Labran Maku thought about stepping down for PDP’s candidate in the state, stressing that Maku had received endorsement from many groups.
He urged the people of Nasarawa state to ignore the news and rally round the APGA candidate at the election.
The statement reads in parts: “It has come to the attention of our party – All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) – of fake news trending in the social media that our governorship candidate in Nasarawa State, Labaran Maku, has stepped down for the PDP candidate.
“We wish to state unequivocally that there is no iota of truth whatsoever in the report. It is the handiwork of political detractors, turncoats and desperadoes bent on misleading the people and blackmailing our candidate who has endeared himself to them.
“There was never a time Labaran Maku contemplated stepping down, when in actual fact his popularity has continued to soar, particularly after his endorsement by Eggons Worldwide.”
