The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba state, Mallam Hassan Mijinyawa, and five others have been kidnapped along Bali-Gembu road on Wednesday, Daily Trust learnt.
Also kidnapped were a foreign national and four other officials of Taraba state government who were travelling along with Malam Mijinyawa in the same vehicle.
Daily Trust gathered that the kidnappers, who were more than 10 in number and armed with sophisticated weapons, blocked the road on Wednesday morning before kidnapping several travellers.
Mijinyawa was travelling to Gembu town in Sardauna local government area to meet his principal who had travelled to the area yesterday for a function to be conducted by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai in Gembu town.
It was gathered that the kidnappers took their abducted persons into a forest including the foreign national whose country of origin is yet to be known.
Mijinyawa’s wife, Madam Salinas Hassan, said her husband had left home at about 7am to meet his principal in Gembu for an official function.
She said she put several calls to her husband but all his lines were switched off.
Mrs. Salinas however called on the state government and security agents to help secure the release of her husband.
The spokesperson of Taraba state police command, ASP David Misal, wasn’t available for official comment on the incident as he neither picked phone calls nor replied text message sent to him by our reporter.
