Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad of Bauchi state has directed the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to immediately construct classrooms at a primary school in Nasarawa village in Alkaleri Local Government Area.

The governor gave the directive when he stopped his convoy at the school where he met about 300 pupils taking lessons in the open.

While some of the pupils are receiving lessons under the surrounding trees others are taking their lesson in make-shift structures.

The Governor, who stopped his convoy to visit the school on his way to Bauchi from Gombe, expressed concern with the conditions of public schools in the state.

He said the directive became necessary in order to ensure provision of qualitative education to students.

The governor added that inadequate public schools and infrastructure across the state are part of the reasons the state is having the highest number of out-of-school children in the country.

He, therefore, appealed to development partners and donor agencies to support his administration’s determination to restore the lost glory of the education sector in the state.

On his part, the Village Head of Nasarawa, Malam Muhammad Shehu told the governor that the allowance of the school teacher is being paid by members of the community.

Similarly, the governor paid an unscheduled visit to a bridge construction and road rehabilitation in Gwaram.

The governor expressed satisfaction with the quality of the work and suggested for an improvement in some areas in order to add value to the project.

Responding, the site Engineer, Mr Charles Patrick, said about 95 percent of the project has been completed.
