Those released included inmates who committed light offences and those who have grown old. The governor said the gesture was to re-integrate the released inmates into the society but cautioned them against  committing crime again.

He called on youths to shun political thuggery and learn to become self-reliant, stressing that his government would sponsor them for vocational training in Kano.

“All jobless youths in the state who are willing to help themselves should register with the ministry of youth development, we are ready to partner with them and make them self- reliant,” the governor said.

He said more than 400 youths had been sponsored to the Turkish College in Kano, Kaduna and Abuja, including undergraduate students who are now pursuing degree programmes abroad.

He said the youth farm project initiated by the state had empoawered more than 5,000 people who get free fertiliser, seedlings, among others.
