Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar has signed the 2018 approved budget into law.
The amount budgeted for the 2018 fiscal year for Bauchi state is N167,899,220.800.
It could be recalled that governor Abubakar had earlier presented a proposed 2018 appropriation bill of N167.9 billion.
Speaking during the signing of the budget in Bauchi Wednesday, governor Abubakar said as in the proposed bill presented to the state House of Assembly, the approved budget consists of 40% recurrent and 60% capital expenditure.
According to him, education sector will get 19.22% while health will get 15.23% percent share of the budget respectively.
Governor Abubakar informed that his administration will also focus on priority areas which include Agriculture, Solid Minerals and Tourism to develop Bauchi state’s economy.
He also revealed that the budget was also designed to ensure the completion of ongoing developmental projects across the state.
The governor also stated that the government will also embark on the provision of hundreds of kilometres of rural roads in all parts of the state which will help in developing rural economy.
Speaking after the signing of the budget, the speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly, Kawuwa Shehu Damina said that the house worked harmoniously with the executive and all Ministries Departments and Agencies ( MDAs) in the state to produce the budget.
He said N52 million was reduced from the budget presented earlier by governor Abubakar.
He said the reduction was necessitated by their desire to balance the recurrent and capital expenditure contained in the proposed appropriation bill.
Damina noted that, the approved federal government oil bench mark was considered by the Bauchi state House of Assembly in approving the budget.
The speaker said the state lawmakers acted speedily on the budget because of its importance in order to allow the government carry out its responsibility of providing social amenities to the electorates.
