The Gombe State Government has relaxed the 15-hour curfew it imposed in Gombe metropolis in response to the prevailing security situation in some parts of the metropolis on Saturday.
The state government had imposed the curfew from 3pm on Saturday April 27 to 6am on Sunday April 28, to douse tension after a burial ceremony for eight Boys’ Brigade children killed by an officer of the NSCDC turned violent.
In a statement issued by the Acting Secretary of the State Government, Mr James Pisagih, said Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo has directed the review of the curfew to 10pm.
“Reports received by Governor Dankwambo from security agencies in the state indicated that the hitherto tensed security situation has improved, therefore he directed review of the curfew to 10pm to 6am daily until complete normalcy is restored,” he said.
Mr Pisagih urged security agencies to ensure strict compliance to the directive and put more surveillance to flash points in Gombe metropolis.
Daily Trust correspondent who went round the metropolis reports that normalcy has since returned to the town with motor parks, markets and other shops opened for business.
It was observed that security personnel have been deployed at strategic locations in the town to monitor and respond promptly to any threat.
