Government lawyers under the umbrella of Law Officer Association of Nigeria (LOAN ) have called on all the federal and state governments to assign security protection to them and also pay them security allowances.
In a communiqué signed by LOAN National President, Yusuf Abdullahi and General Secretary, Joseph Jebba, at the end of its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held recently in Akwa Ibom State, a copy of which was made available to Daily Trust yesterday, LOAN expressed concern over heightening insecurity in the country.
They mentioned the state of insecurity in the nationwide and condemned the wanton destruction of lives and properties orchestrated by terrorists, herdsmen, kidnappers, bandits, armed robbers and the like in the nation and called on the Federal Government and Security agencies to put in place measures to curb these anomalies.
They said that by the nature of their duties, including the prosecution of high risk criminal cases relating to terrorism, kidnapping, high profile corruption, among others – they were mostly exposed to security threats and could easily fall victim.
They said that there was need for government to urgently put in place security measures to secure them from harm while carrying out their official responsibilities.
