The contest organised by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) and themed “The Role of consumer in addressing Plastic Waste Solution” attracted participants across the country.

The contest, which is of two categories, flier and video categories, aimed at addressing the menace of plastic waste in the country.

Monet High School, Akwa Ibom State, came second in the video category, while Queens Model Secondary School, Enugu, came second in the flier category.

Speaking immediately after the presentation of the prize, the principal Government College, Keffi, Audu Idris Ohimege, said their hard work paid.

He said, “I am so excited; our school is an old school. Late President Musa Yar’Adua was there and the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, was there.

“We really worked hard. This is what made our submission unique. We deserve it. In 2009, we were invited but could not turn up; in 2020, the event could not take off because of COVID-19. This time around, we came and here we are today. We worked hard and prepared for it.”

The Executive Commissioner of the commission in charge of operation, Dr Abdullahiu A. Adamu, said plastic waste has become a menace in the world.

According to him, all the submissions by the participants were fantastic, as the contest drew participants from all over the country.

He urged other department of the commission to come up ideas that will spur the commission’s mission in addressing the menace.
