The Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, representing Benue South Senatorial District, implied on Monday that governance in Benue State resembles a privately owned entity.

Moro stated that the pace of governance in Benue State is currently dictated by just one person, though he did not mention any names. He spoke during an expanded meeting of the state People’s Democratic Party (PDP) held at the party secretariat in Makurdi.

The meeting aimed to strategise for the party’s forthcoming ward and local government congresses, as well as the local government elections across all 23 councils in Benue.

In his speech, the minority leader encouraged party supporters to work harder to bring the PDP back to power, stressing the need for the party to regain control given the current economic hardship in the country, which he attributed to the federal government.

“Choose the best to work for the party so that the PDP will bounce back to power. We don’t need anybody to tell us that what we have here in Benue is not governance but a one-man show,” Moro said.

Moro also advised party faithful to beware of individual interests in the upcoming elections, emphasising that imposing unpopular candidates should be avoided for the collective best interest of the party.

Former governors of the state, Gabriel Suswam and Samuel Ortom, echoed Moro’s sentiments in their speeches. They criticised the national government for economic policies that have devalued the nation’s currency and made food unaffordable.
