Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State flagged off the construction of a N4.3 billion interchange flyover in Katsina metropolis on Wednesday.
When I saw the report, I was shocked and totally gave up about our rural communities’ needs, such as accessible road network.
For example, all our calls to governor Bello Masari in the last seven years for the construction of the road from Marabar Kankara to Burdugau G’, a distance of about 13 kilometres, to ease transportation for our community, were not listened to.
It is my belief that this project embarked upon in Katsina metropolis is meaningless and a total disregard to the needs of the teeming population in the rural areas of the state.
I wish to ask the governor if he feels that the residents of the rural areas of the state do not deserve such attention.
My experience in states such as Jigawa, Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara is that the governments had put good infrastructure in the rural areas.
The construction of a flyover in Katsina metropolis can only be useful to those who reside in the capital city.
It is also an indication that this administration has totally abdicated its responsibility to its rural populace especially since it is in its last year in power.
My advice to residents of the rural communities is to continue praying for Allah to bring new set of leaders who will carry them along in development and will execute projects that would have positive impact on them.
I am also calling on Governor Masari to as a matter of urgency, revoke the contract he awarded on the construction of flyover in Katsina metropolitan and inject the said N4.3 billion in the rural areas for them to enjoy dividend of democracy under his leadership.
