Gov Zulum mourns as spokesman, Isa Gusau, dies in India

The Special Assistant to Borno State Governor on Media and Strategy, Mallam Isa Gusau, is dead.

Sources close to the deceased said he died on Thursday evening in an Indian hospital where he’s undergoing treatment.

A close family source confirmed the death saying he left behind two wives and three children.

His body is expected from India to Abuja where family members and close associates would receive him for burial according Islamic rites.

His colleagues have described him as a hardworking official who took the challenge of redeeming the image of Borno State throughout the insurgency period.

Isa was a former reporter with the Daily Trust Newspapers in Borno State before Vice President Kashim Shettima appointed him as a media aide while serving as the governor of the state.

After Kashim’s tenure in 2019, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum took over and reappointed him as spokesman in 2019, a position he held until his demise on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has expressed grief over the passing of his spokesperson.

Governor Zulum said the entire Borno State government mourned the loss of a dedicated public servant and a cherished member of the team.

Zulum said he had contacted the family of his late spokesperson, while also extending condolences to his friends and associates, particularly members of the media industry.

“Mallam Isa Gusau was admired by everyone for his commitment to the people of Borno State and his exceptional professionalism in his role. He was a tireless advocate for the state and worked tirelessly to communicate the government’s initiatives and policies to the public with clarity and transparency.

“Isa Gusau will be remembered for his passion for serving the people of Borno State and his dedication to the betterment of the state.  His exceptional communication skills played a crucial role in fostering understanding and cooperation between the government and the people,” Zulum said.

The governor prayed for the repose of the soul of the late Gusau and prayed that Allah gives his family and loved ones the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
