Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has called on President Mohammadu Buhari to establish the North East Development Commission.
Tambuwal made the appeal while addressing PDP delegates in Bauchi on Friday.
He said Mr President had assented to the North East Development Commission (Establishment) Bill nine months back.
“We are, therefore, appealing to the president to operationalise the commission to start working for the people of North East; It will tackle the menace of poverty and environmental challenges in the area.
He said that the commission would better coordinate projects and programmes within the Master Plan for the rehabilitation, resettlement, reconciliation, reconstruction and sustainable development of the North-East Zone.
“In terms of infrastructure, human and social services, including health and nutrition, education and water supply, agriculture, wealth creation and employment opportunities, urban and rural development and poverty alleviation,” he said.
The PDP presidential aspirant stressed that the take-off of the commission would alleviate the sufferings of the people in the region.
Tambuwal pledged to use his legislative and executive experience to find lasting solution to the challenges of the country if elected.
“Therefore I am in Bauchi to solicit the support of the State Delegates in order to give me the mandate to be the candidate,” he said.
He said if given the opportunity, he would ensure rule of law in the country and give equal opportunity to all Nigerians.
Mr Tambuwal expressed confidence that the PDP would win the next general elections, to enable it to restore the glory of the country.
The Bauchi State PDP Chairman, Alhaji Hamza Akuyam, assured that the delegates would consider him, because of his support to the party in the state.
