Wife of Osun State governor, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola, received and showered gifts on the state’s first baby of the year 2020, who was born yesterday at the State Hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo, at about 1am.
Presenting gifts to the 3.4kg baby through his parents, Mr and Mrs Adewale Abass, Mrs Oyetola used the occasion to thank the people of the state for supporting Governor Gboyega Oyetola’s administration.
She appealed to mothers of new babies in the state to ensure exclusive breast feeding by giving their babies only breast milk for six months, stressing that any child that enjoyed exclusive breastfeeding would be healthy and brilliant.
She said such a baby would not die from avoidable deaths associated with the consequences of child malnutrition.
Mrs Oyetola also charged the people of the state to stop the practice of open defecation because of its devastating consequences on the health of the people.
“We want every household, every public place to have decent and safe toilets across our state. This is a task on which we shall enlist all stakeholders. The benefits are just too numerous if we stop open defecation and use toilets,” she added.
In Lagos State, Mrs Bukola Agede gave birth to the first baby boy at exactly 12.01a.m at Ijede General Hospital.
Another baby, a female which weighed 3.1kg, was delivered at 12.07am by Mrs. Beauty Agbor at Agbowa General Hospital, while Mr and Mrs Kazeem gave birth to a boy at 1.40a.m at the Ketu-Ejirin General Hospital.
Dr. Sanwo-Olu, wife of the state governor who was at these hospitals to celebrate with the mothers, presented various items such as mothers packs, baby essentials and other baby gifts to the babies and their parents.
And in Ogun State, the Junior Chambers International (JCI), Rockcity chapter, yesterday donated gifts to the babies born early in 2020 in Abeokuta, the state capital.
The programme, tagged ‘Baby of Impact Project’, was carried out at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba and the Ogun State Hospital, Ijaiye, as part of activities marking the New Year.
The group donated toiletries, wears and cash to the two babies who were born at the same time at FMC.
The leader of the team, Ayodeji Oliver Ajayi, said the gesture was to share love and spread the happiness of the season to the babies and their families.
“The two babies were born by different parents at the same time so we had to present all the gifts and cash to both families (Mr and Mrs Akingbogun and Mr and Mrs Agbolade).”
