Gov Obaseki pledges to pay Sunshine Stars medical bills

The Edo state governor, Godwin  Obaseki has pledged to pay the medical bills incurred by Sunshine Stars team at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).

The governor made the pledged through the chairman, Edo State Sports Commission, Olympian Yusuf Alli.

“The Governor sympathizes with you. He is so concerned about what has happened to you people and he is deeply pained.

“He asked me to tell you that he is going to take care of your medical bills. He sent his goodwill message to you. He has directed me to follow up with happenings and get the bills from you”.

Recall that the Sunshine Stars were attacked by suspected armed robbers between along the Ore-Benin Express Road on Thursday on their way to Benin to honour NPFL match with Bendel Insurance FC of Benin. A ball boy was shot and players and other officials were highly traumatised and disoriented after the attack.

As a result of the attack, the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) board rescheduled the Match Day 13 game from December 9 to December 10.

The match between Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin and Sunshine Stars of Akure was earlier slated to hold December 9 at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, Benin City.

Daily Trust on Sunday reports that the Kick off time for the rescheduled match is 4pm.
